Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved in the community! UMMC encourages community involvement and has many programs focused on youth and education, health, and economic development. Find out more about UMMC's community initiatives and ways that you can get involved.

Below you will find a list of places where you can sign up to volunteer. We encourage you to share your volunteering stories with us at youandummc@umm.edu, and to use this website to assemble groups for volunteering events.

Opportunities Through UMMC

UMMC encourages employees to be active in their community through participating in various volunteer opportunities. This is a great way to get involved on your unit and give back to the Baltimore community!

Community Champion Program

A very new and evolving Community Champion program is underway. The program invites hospital employees who are interested in working within the community to join. As a Community Champion, you work to notify your unit of upcoming volunteer opportunities and encourage your unit to be involved. Email blasts are sent to each Community Champion when a volunteer opportunity arises and the Community Champion informs co-workers of upcoming events via an email chain, bulletin board, flyers, etc. At this point in this evolving program, not all units have community champions.

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities or you would like to be involved with the Community Champion Program please contact Lucy Miner or Anne Williams.

United Way Campaign

The annual UMMC United Way Drive encourages Medical Center employees to give back to their communities. Generous donations from staff, as well as volunteer projects organized by several departments have made this campaign a huge success in the past. The United Way of Central Maryland can connect you with the right volunteer opportunity for you and your coworkers. Browse their event calendar and local volunteer centers to determine the best way to contribute.

In addition to participation in UMMC sponsored health fairs, familiar volunteer projects include participation at:

Ronald McDonald House, My Sisters' Place, The Salvation Army and Back on my Feet
